Typography: Workshop 1

Fibonacci Sequence
Sequence ratio 8:13
Used in fine art and portraits
About portions - the human body
The sequence itself - each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers
Draw a third square using the combined lengths of the two original ways

Need to use ratios for when you expand something so it can be enlarged and still portion each other
eg.
55 point title should be complemented with 34 point body copy by applying Fibonacci's sequence

Golden Section
Forms the basis of paper sizes and principles to using it to balance designs
1.62 is the golden number
Also known as golden rectangle
1.62 divided with page width - round off to the nearest number
Measure the number from the side - creates two sections
Can divide that by 1.62 to create more sections

Golden Spirals
Areas of negative space and visual interest should fit within the spiral. Within this image, as with the rule of thirds, the eye is naturally drawn to the centre of the spiral to look for details.
Use it in photography and web etc.

We had to create something on what we know about type. I decided that theres thing I know which I do subconsciously in design rather than precise information and facts on typography which i'm not very good at. I decided to do what not to do with type rather than what to do. This led me to do a mimic album of Michael Jacksons album 'Bad' about typography.
