Design Production: Branding Packaging - Concept Crit

Katie:

Strengths:

  • Striking packaging! The black works really well on black, looks mat/textured at the same time, the laser cut looks really good and sophisticated, i can see this packaging in topshop.

Areas for improvement:

  • Could be more experimental with the size of the packaging, i think it would of worked really well on a larger scale, what is each bag for?

Abbas:

Strengths:

  • Really clever laser cut idea. Looks Classy. Well assembled.

Areas for improvement:

  • Might be hard to read & take in from distance as it's black on black

Considerations:

  • Maybe have more variety with sizes + ranges of nets
  • Maybe laser cut the logo out but have a different coloured stock showing through behind to make moto stand out
  • Maybe with different stocks like orange might have a clearer laser cut bit, all burn
Jack:

Strengths:

  • High level of craftsmanship
  • Sleek, clean and minimal
  • Impressive use of laser cutter adding texture to the design

Areas for improvement:

  • All small packaging - more creative with sizing
  • Too thick a stock, splitting on the edges

Considerations:

  • Range of sized nets
  • Colour underlay to promote the type
  • Different stocks to see if it becomes more visible although I enjoy black

Overall groups feedback:

  1. Stock quality
  2. Craftmanship
  3. Range of nets - range of design
  4. Colours & use of design
  5. Context of brand/net e.g. hanging up would need slots
Other things to take into consideration :

  • Some packaging nets are recognisable (eg. batteries) and its hard to move away from that even if its rebranded
  • The way you open the lid means you have to turn around which brings your attention to the instructions (eg.hairdye)
  • Famous nets eg. toberone, coke cola bottle - Its for a specific brand and becomes part of its branding
