Types of print:
  • Rotary
  • Digital
  • Screen 
Rotary: 
printing plate wrapped around cylinder

  1. offset
  2. rotogravure 
  3. flexography
Offset Lithography

  • Not directly printed
  • 'Web offset' - high speed, run on rolls not sheets, folding built in
Roto
  • Copper plates
  • Transfer directly to print surface
  • Durable
  • Good for longer print runs
  • High volume print runs - eg. laminate flooring, bank notes, the times newspaper
Flexo
  • Positive, mirror image
  • Rubber polymer plate
  • Cylinder transfers 'sticky' ink directly to print surface
  • eg. food packaging
  • In relief on plate
Digital
  • Translate digital code direct from computer
  • Suited for short run or specials 
  • Paper to metal material

Screen

  • woven mesh support an ink block
Pad

  • Transfer a 2-D image onto a 3-D object

Colour Processors & Applications

Subjective colour - CMYK
- More colours you lay on top the darker the colour

Additive colour - RGB
- More colours you lay on top the lighter the colour

Tip:
- Whats on screen prints darker
- Select appropriate colour model
